"The path to surplus is not through raising taxes": Federico Sturzenegger previewed upcoming reforms during an event at Harvard.

Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation Federico Sturzenegger participated in the JFK Jr. Forum at Harvard University and presented the pillars of his program of deregulation and economic reforms under President Javier Milei 's agenda. Sturzenegger highlighted the Argentine president's stature and compared him to South American magnate Elon Musk.
The minister's speech, moderated by Harvard professor Jeffrey Frankel , focused on the reforms his office implemented to achieve a fiscal surplus. Sturzenegger explained the "chainsaw" concept to the audience, explaining: " The path to a surplus is not through raising taxes, but through a drastic reduction in government spending ."
Among the most notable changes, the minister mentioned the elimination of the Rental Law, which he said would have allowed for a 30% reduction in rental prices and increased the supply of properties. " We decided that people could sign contracts in the currency they wanted, with the conditions they wanted, and for the length of their stay, " the minister celebrated.
Thanks for the invitation to speak at the @Kennedy_School Forum at @Harvard , where I taught for many years. What a change from Cristina Kirchner's infamous "guys, this isn't La Matanza" phrase here to the preaching of fiscal order and economic freedom that @JMilei defends today. pic.twitter.com/NXcAMXm2pJ

Sturzenegger also highlighted the numerous complaints his ministry received from citizens with recommendations for possible reforms. According to the minister, the office opened by Javier Milei received more than 12,000 complaints, which allegedly helped him " guide his deregulation agenda ."
In another segment, Sturzenegger discussed the relationship between the Argentine president and entrepreneur Elon Musk, highlighting their similar agendas regarding government cuts, economic liberalization, and the elimination of regulations. " Milei spoke with Elon Musk about our policies. I think Musk's approach to economic freedom has many similarities with ours ," she noted.
Sturzenegger also mentioned the arrival of the satellite internet company Starlink in Argentina thanks to a decree signed by Milei. " We lifted the ban on satellite internet. Thanks to that, Starlink began operating in Argentina and allowed people to have internet access even in places where fiber optics are impossible due to geographical conditions ."
Finally, the minister outlined the next steps in his structural reform plan for the state. Sturzenegger stated that the changes will come after the macroeconomic situation stabilizes and will include greater economic openness to boost exports and the country's competitiveness, as well as an adjustment to the labor market.
